The size our tools make for Google Shopping
2000 × 2000 px, background: white, product: 90% of the side. The image resizer and the AI white background tool use this preset, which follows the rules above.
The Google Shopping pages we could read do not state: aspect ratio, colour and not on the main image. We leave these out rather than guess.
Rules for some categories
- Clothing: Show the product worn by a person; in a full-body image, do not crop the model's head or feet.
- Shoes, handbags and accessories: Shown alone in the main image, and on a model in additional images.
- Hardware, Vehicles & Parts, Computer Software: A generic image, graphic or illustration may stand in for the actual product.
Other stated rules
- The main image shows the entire product accurately, with minimal or no staging; a bundle's main image shows every product in it.
- The 500 x 500 px minimum is new: Google enforces it from January 31, 2027.
- Images made with generative AI must keep the metadata that says so, such as the IPTC DigitalSourceType tag.
- Do not use a transparent background for light-coloured products.
- Show a single unit of the product, and no product that is not sold with it.
- Google may crop images automatically.
- Do not scale up an image or submit a thumbnail.
