Should I use PNG or JPG?
Use JPG for product photos: it is lossy, so the file is much smaller, and photos hide the lost detail well. Keep PNG for logos, screenshots, text and anything that needs a transparent background, because PNG is lossless and JPG has no transparency.

Questions
A little. JPG is lossy, so it drops some detail to make the file smaller. On photos that is hard to see; text and sharp edges show it first. Raise the quality with the Quality chip to keep more detail.
JPG cannot store transparency, so the converter fills transparent areas with white. Pick another colour with the Background chip before you convert.
PNG keeps every pixel exactly, while JPG drops detail the eye hardly sees. For photos that makes the JPG much smaller. Each row shows both sizes.
