The size our tools make for Amazon

2000 × 2000 px, background: pure white (RGB 255, 255, 255), product: 95% of the side. The image resizer and the AI white background tool use this preset, which follows the rules above.

The Amazon pages we could read do not state: aspect ratio and largest file. We leave these out rather than guess.

Rules for some categories

  • Adult clothing: Main image on a standing model, pure white background, close to 3:4 (width/height), 85% of the image area.
  • Footwear: Main image shows a single shoe facing left at a 45-degree angle.
  • Clothing accessories and multipacks: Shown flat, without a model.
  • Children's undergarments and swimwear: Photographed lying flat, without models, on every image.
  • Beds, bed frames, mattresses, rugs, rug pads, sofas: May use a lifestyle image as the main image, with no text or extra logos.

Other stated rules

  • Show the whole product, once, with only the accessories it comes with; no packaging unless it is a product feature.
  • No human models on the main image, except for adult clothing.
  • Do not artificially enlarge small images. JPEG is recommended.
  • The product image guide lists PNG as accepted and 500 px on the longest side; the error-code page says otherwise.
  • Photorealistic AI-generated people must be tagged with the IPTC keyword contains-synthetic-performer.
  • Amazon may add a grey or beige background to fashion main images; sellers still upload pure white.

How many images should an Amazon listing have?

One compliant main image plus at least six more and one video: that is the recommendation in Amazon's product image guide. Amazon's selling guide says a listing takes up to nine photos.

A practical set: the main shot on white, two or three angles, a scale or in-use shot, and a close-up of the texture, material or label that matters to the buyer. For the other platforms' limits, see how many photos a listing needs.

Why does Amazon reject or suppress product images?

Most of the reasons on Amazon's suppression list concern the main image, and Amazon can hide the listing from search until a compliant one is uploaded. The common ones:

  • Text, a logo, a graphic or a watermark on the main image.
  • A background that is not pure white RGB 255, 255, 255.
  • A missing main image, a cropped product, or extra items that do not ship with it.
  • The product in its packaging, or with brand or swing tags.
  • Props inside, around or covering the product.
  • A blurred or pixelated image, or a product too small in the frame.
  • A mannequin or hanger, or a human model for a product that is not clothing.

To fix it, upload a new image with the MAIN variant code instead of deleting the old one. The change can take up to 24 hours to show.

Can I use AI-made product images on Amazon?

Yes, when they show the real product accurately. Amazon's rules say synthetic images that represent the product realistically and look like a good product photo do not count as added graphics. If an image shows photorealistic people made entirely by AI, add the keyword contains-synthetic-performer to its IPTC metadata (the dc:subject field) before you upload it; Amazon then adds a disclosure where one is needed. Lifestyle scenes and in-use shots for the other images can come from the same photo in Product photos.

How it works

  1. Check your main image

Add it to the checker above: it tests each of Amazon's stated rules in your browser.

  2. Resize it to 2000 × 2000 px

The free resizer's Amazon preset sets the size and where the product sits.

  3. Fix the background

Put the product on pure white with the AI white background tool where Amazon asks for white.
