Why are my iPhone photos HEIC?
iPhone 7 and later save photos in HEIF, Apple's High Efficiency format, unless the camera is set to Most Compatible (Settings, Camera, Formats), which saves JPEG instead. HEIF uses less storage than JPEG at the same visual quality, Apple says, but most marketplaces in our size guide do not list HEIC among the formats they accept (see the table).

The format is set to JPG. For JPG and WebP set the quality; for JPG, the colour transparent areas get.
Convert and download

Open Settings, tap Camera, tap Formats and choose Most Compatible. New photos are then saved as JPEG, Apple says. Photos you already took stay HEIC, so convert those here.
A little, as every JPG save does: JPG drops some detail to keep the file small. On photos that is hard to see. Raise the quality with the Quality chip to keep more detail.
Yes. Pick PNG or WebP with the To chip. PNG is lossless, so nothing more is lost, but the file is bigger than a JPG.
