How much does product photography cost?

ProduktShot Team4 min

Short answer

Product photographers typically charge $50 to $350 per image, or $500 to $3,000 per day, according to Shopify's January 2026 guide to product photography pricing. Models, lifestyle scenes, advanced editing and rush deadlines push the price up. An AI product photo in ProduktShot costs 3 credits per standard image.

How much does a product photographer cost?

Most charge $50 to $350 per image or $500 to $3,000 per day, with outliers at both ends, according to Shopify's guide. The figures are in US dollars.

On top of the photographer's fee:

  • Models have their own fee, which varies with their experience and agency.
  • Food stylists charge from a few hundred dollars to $2,000 a day.
  • Rush jobs add 25% to 200% of the total job cost.

Ask every quote whether it is per image, per product or per day. The three are not interchangeable, and a quote that looks cheap can turn out to bill studio time by the hour.

What makes the price go up or down?

Shopify's guide names seven factors:

  1. Experience. Established photographers charge more.
  2. Type of shot. How many images you need, and whether the product is matte or highly reflective, which is harder to shoot.
  3. Equipment. Special gear may be billed as a separate rental.
  4. Location. Studio space, travel and the local market.
  5. Scope. Models, lifestyle imagery, video and a wider variety of images all add cost.
  6. Editing. Basic colour correction and cropping cost less than background changes, colour grading and image manipulation.
  7. Turnaround. Tight deadlines bring rush fees.

What does AI product photography cost instead?

A standard product photo in ProduktShot costs 3 credits, and images start at 2.5 credits. The Starter plan is €29 a month for 250 credits, and new accounts get 16 credits free, without a card. There is no day rate, no minimum order and no travel: you upload one photo of the product, pick scenes in Product photos, and generate what you need. Background removal is free on every paid plan. All plans are on the pricing page.

The trade-off: the AI works from your existing photo. It does not photograph the product for you, so the source photo still needs to be sharp and show the real item.

When is a real photoshoot still worth the cost?

When the shot itself is the hard part: a hero campaign image built around one creative idea, a set with several products and props styled together, or a product whose physical detail carries the sale, such as cut glass, brushed metal or fine jewellery. It is also the right call when you need a real person wearing or using the product, when the result must match art direction a brand team has already approved, or when the images will be reused for years in print, on packaging and on large signs.

For everyday content, such as clean listing images, seasonal variations and ad formats in different aspect ratios, AI product photos usually cost less and are ready faster. See AI product photos vs a real photoshoot for the full comparison.

Summary

Product photographers typically charge $50 to $350 per image or $500 to $3,000 per day (Shopify, 2026), more with models, styling, advanced editing or a rush deadline.
